Zingiber mioga 'Silver Arrow'
Tropical, exotic Zingiber mioga usually grows on shady slopes and throughout mountain valleys in Japan but performs very well in the UK being the hardiest of all the gingers.
'Silver Arrow' is a variegated cultivar of this popular Japanese herb preferring rich, moist, well-drained soil in partial shade.
Vivid green shoots emerge from April until mid-June before rapidly attaining full height.
The delicate orchid like flowers are a yellowish white and emerge close to the base of the plant. It is hardy to -16°C or below, depending on soil conditions and degree of protection but excessive soil wetness in winter should be avoided.
Plants benefit from a mulch during winter and this will aid emergence of the flower buds.
A stunning addition to tropical planting schemes, this oriental beauty will form large clumps if grown with care.
