Verbena hastata 'White Spires'
An upright, clump forming perennial from the US prairies bearing stiff panicles loaded with creamy white flowers.
Like Verbena bonariensis the plant is borderline hardy but it has coped in our garden for many winters. It's an abundant self seeder so if it does bite the dust you should have plenty of seedlings in spring.
It has a stiffer more architectural demeanour than V. bonariensis looking good when combined with ornamental grasses or as part of a prairie planting scheme.
All Verbenas are beneficial for attracting wildlife, particularly butterflies and they make excellent cut flowers.
Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun. On very cold sites a winter mulch may help but we've never bothered and they get along just fine.
Moist, well drained
