Verbena bonariensis
Purpletop vervain
This 'see through' plant is a must for any garden regardless of size as they provide height, depth and movement without being too bulky. Towering above most other plants, the very long and wiry flower stems dangle in the breeze whilst the foliage remains compact and relatively unobtrusive.
Originating in South America these perennials can be short lived in our climate and are often treated as annuals, but they will survive mild winters and self seed in a random way around the garden.
Due to their height, a little shelter from ferocious winds is advised.
A marvellous plant for pollinators.
