Setaria palmifolia

Palm grass

Found in tropical, subtropical and temperate forests of Asia, Palm Grass is an elegant, broad-leaved, vigorous grass that will form attractive jungle-like foliage given the right conditions.

The big strappy leaves are pleated like an accordion and up to 75cm long, looking like young palm fronds.

Sheaths surrounding the leaf stalks are covered in irritating hairs so do handle with care.

Introduced to warmer areas of the world, it is considered an invasive pest, but that is unlikely to happen in the UK due to our cold, wet winters.

An excellent container plant.
