Schizachyrium scoparium 'Blaze'
Little bluestem
This is a very sturdy selection of Little bluestem with marvellous autumn colour.
In summer the foliage is grey green before slowly turning pink, red and bronze as autumn approaches.
If planted in poor, dry soils the stalks will stand over the early winter months adding colour to drab borders. Lovely fluffy seed heads glisten in sharp frosts making this attractive even in the gloomier months.
A great all-rounder the plant adapts well to difficult conditions and will grow in clay as long as it's not too moist. It is also drought tolerant and looks great in dry or xeriscape gardens. Dried, the stems can be used in flower arrangements. Deciduous.
