Patrinia scabiosifolia

Golden lace

If this plant went to a party it would happily mingle with everyone, chat amiably away and not hog all the sausage rolls.

Despite its height of a metre or more it quietly blends into the background allowing showier specimens to dazzle. The perfect guest.

This is an invaluable plant amongst any gathering for filling spaces amongst the extroverts - those plants that just shriek across a crowded border.  Although robust it likes a bit of room round its edges and can get easily swamped by other plants when small.

Although grown in this country since  the 1820's, it has fallen into gardening obscurity - we have no idea why as it really is perfectly charming.
