Papaver orientale 'Royal Wedding'
Oriental poppy
'Royal Wedding' has been awarded the RHS - AGM and that should come as no surprise. Introduced in 1996 it's a great border plant.
Very long-lived and virtually trouble -free, it will put on a fabulous show year after year.
The pure white, silky flowers are huge, up to 15cm in diameter, each with an intricately decorated, deep purple-black centre.
Once established an Oriental poppy will spread to form large clumps that last for decades. They resent disturbance but can be lifted and divided with care although it will take a year to flower once moved.
A perfect centrepiece in the garden or rather marvellous in a vase.
