Paeonia lactiflora 'Sarah Bernhardt'
Common peony
Bred by the famous French hybridizer Victor Lemoine, this peony became available in 1906 and has proved a popular and easy to grow cultivar ever since.
'Sarah Bernhardt' is a shrubby plant that, each year, will typically grow to 90cm tall. It has attractive foliage throughout summer and early autumn before dying back completely with the first frost.
It features very large, very fragrant, rose-pink double flowers which make excellent cut flowers.
Grow in rich, fertile, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Plants need abundant moisture during the early part of the growing season and appreciate some partial shade in the hottest part of the day.
