Miscanthus sinensis var. condensatus 'Cosmopolitan' (v)
Japanese silver grass
An imposing, late season grass that starts into active growth when temperatures start to climb. Grow this as a spectacular foliage plant as each leaf is very long, arching in habit and possessing a dark green centre with creamy white margins. It's perfect for creating a focal point in a large garden or the effect of a sugar cane plantation in smaller areas.
A long hot summer is needed for it to flower in profusion but when the plumes do appear they are a seductive burnished bronze.
As autumn approaches the leaves become a golden yellow with the flowers fading to a silvery champagne. By winter the whole is burnt umber.
Easy on well drained to dryish soils in full sun.
