Miscanthus sacchariflorus
Amur silver grass
Very tall, clump forming, feature plant that is not invasive in the UK.
It is a warm season grass from Amur, China and rarely flowers in our cooler climate.
The bamboo like stems and large strappy bright green foliage make it an excellent choice for disguising unattractive areas of the garden. When planted in rows they make a fine windbreak. The long stems are very resilient and do not need support.
When dried we use them as pea sticks in the veg' patch.
It is deciduous and old growth should be cut down in spring.
It will reach its imposing height by mid summer.
