Linum flavum 'Compactum'
Golden flax is native to central and southern Europe and is a smashing little alpine beloved of many a foraging insect.
It is an erect, woody perennial with dark, semi-evergreen leaves, and terminal clusters of bright yellow, five-petalled flowers in spring.
It will spread across an alpine bed, nooks, crannies and crevices - anywhere that has sharp drainage.
The mass of tiny little flowers is a very cheerful sight early in the growing year and provides a valuable food source for pollinators fresh out of hibernation. Easy.
