Leucosceptrum japonicum f. aureum
Japanese shrub mint
An uncommon but fantastic foliage plant from Japan that thrives in damp woodland conditions. The intensely coloured golden leaves form a large glowing clump brightening any gloomy patch of shade.
Very happy if the soil is moisture retentive, full of leaf mould and in partial to mid-shade, the leaves will scorch in full sun.
Despite being a member of the mint family it is not invasive but will slowly form a large clump to put colour where colour does not normally go.
The small bottlebrush like flowers appear in late summer but although very distinctive are not the main attraction.
As with most newly planted shade plants protect from slugs and snails initially.
