Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra 'Bleeding Hearts'
False sunflower
Heliopsis translates from the Greek as 'resembling the sun' and this wonderful variety produces all the colours of a fiery autumnal sunset.
The large daisy-like florets open a deep burgundy, changing to caramelised orange before fading to well worn bronze. Colours so evocative it is hard to imagine a more perfect combination for late summer flowers.
The foliage is dark, almost entirely black with healthy, moody purple leaves and sturdy black stems that contrast magnificently with the vibrant flowers.
Reaching over a metre this is a superior plant for the border. Grow in well drained soil in full sun.
