Ficus carica 'Brown Turkey'
Brown fig
Brown Turkey is the most reliable and the most common fig tree grown in the UK.
Figs will grow perfectly well in a container if fed and watered but really get into their stride when planted against a south facing wall.
To grow well and produce ripe fruit, figs need heat and full sunlight to thrive. They also need rich, well drained soil and surprisingly, a decent amount of water.
There are many ways they can be grown - either as free standing specimens, in tubs or fan trained against a suitable building or wall. Each method will dictate the pruning regime.
We recommend you consult the RHS guide to growing figs, which gives in depth information: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/grow-your-own/fruit/figs
