Eryngium planum
Blue eryngo
Grow this for its amazing colour. A truly electric blue. It's a neon sign to every insect in the garden. Every summer, each flower is covered in at least one bee or butterfly.
These tall spikes of nectar are inclined to flop so they will require staking but otherwise it's trouble free. Eryngiums grow a deep and complex root system so they resent disturbance but the thick, tough roots can penetrate even difficult soils such as heavy clay.
The heart shaped, evergreen leaves are soft and lightly serrated forming a neat, basal clump. Very hardy.
