Photo: Blackstem Plants
This is a a very decorative and architectural plant that has become iconic in contemporary garden design.
Its tight verticality fits into narrow planting spaces and on small balconies.
It is well suited to container gardening which is where it MUST be kept. The plant is an aggressive spreader which will quickly colonise the average garden.
It can survive in almost any soil or aspect as long as there is some moisture. No wonder that fossilised specimens have been found dating back 350 million years.
It spreads quickly by underground rhizomes and will survive the harshest of conditions.
Can be grown in a pond or water feature as long as it is contained.
We would suggest that you dry and burn unwanted parts of the plant. Do not compost.
