This is a a very decorative and architectural plant that has become iconic in contemporary garden design.
Its tight verticality fits into narrow planting spaces making it perfect for urban balconies. Ironic really as left to its own devices the plant is a total thug, an aggressive spreader that will quickly colonise the average garden.
It is very suited to container gardening which is where it MUST be kept. It can survive in almost any soil or aspect as long as there is some moisture. No wonder that fossilised specimens have been found dating back 350 million years.
It can be grown in a pond or water feature as long as it is contained. We would suggest that you dry and burn unwanted parts of the plant.
Do not compost or discard casually, it will come back to haunt you.
