Echinacea purpurea 'Rubinstern'
Ruby star purple coneflower
'Rubinstern' is a very beautiful cultivar with short, horizontal, deep pink petals that radiate from the central, deep orange cone.
The flower is very flat and wide and is the pink form of 'Happy Star'.
It is unfortunate that Echinacea have proven unreliable in our climate and are definitely plants that suit some gardens but not all.
They loathe overcrowding and suffer from rots and fungus during our dull foggy winters.
Grow as annuals or give them space, air, well drained but deep and fertile soils and a site that gets very hot in summer. They need just the right spot to survive.
We have them in a bed with low grasses on a windy hillside and manage to keep them for 2-3 years before replacing them. We keep growing them as some plants are too beautiful not to have.
Full sun, hot
