Digitalis x mertonensis 'Summer king'
Strawberry foxglove
This is a hybrid between our native foxglove, Digitalis purpurea and the yellow perennial, Digitalis ambigua, it both inherits and improves upon the best of both parents.
It has the perennial habit of D.ambigua but takes its colour and flower form from D.purpurea.
D. x mertonensis has a compact habit forming a clump of large mid-green basal leaves with strong upright stems bearing spikes of strawberry pink flowers subtly spotted within.
It flowers in the early summer months.
