Digitalis x mertonensis 'Summer king'

Strawberry foxglove

This is a hybrid between our native foxglove, Digitalis purpurea and the yellow perennial, Digitalis ambigua; it both inherits and improves upon the best of both parents.

It has the perennial habit of D.ambigua but takes its colour and flower form from D.purpurea.

D. x mertonensis has a compact habit forming a clump of large mid-green basal leaves with strong upright stems bearing spikes of large, strawberry pink flowers subtly spotted within.

It flowers in the early summer months.
