Digitalis ferruginea 'Gelber Herold'
This is the giant form of the Rusty Foxglove originally found on the island of Krk off the Croatian coast.
We've been to Krk which has quite a wild climate, being buffeted by Adriatic storms and the bura winds. The landscape is rocky and quite barren in places so it's unsurprising that this foxglove needs less water than most and is happy in sun.
The evergreen whorls of long, narrow dark green leaves make the plant attractive year round whilst tall flower spikes, covered with rusty yellow flowers are a dramatic feature for the summer months.
