Pink Pampas Grass
Yes, we know - it's pampas grass, and a vibrant pink one to boot. Mock all you want but this is a brilliant grass when planted en masse.
When established, nothing and we mean nothing, eats it - being razor sharp even deer and badgers show it respect.
Pampas make a superb wind break, grow enormous, flower in late autumn and create a safe, sheltered habitat for tiny mammals and amphibians.
We planted six tiny specimens 15 years ago. They now cover an area 15 metres long and are over 3 metres high - so be warned. That said, we wouldn't be without them which is just as well as only a JCB could take them out. Do not plant a single specimen in your front lawn. Tongues will wag.
