Cephalaria gigantea

Giant scabious

This doesn't look like a very exciting plant. It doesn't spread but forms neat mounds of not particularly interesting grey-green leaves that quietly sit minding their own business.

Then one day you'll walk out into the garden and there's a tall, wiry spike about 2m in the air. These bear bright, creamy yellow, pincushion flowers approximately 6cm across. Pollinating insects just adore them.

A plant that lends height without bulk to any border. Wonderfully unassuming, very easy to grow and gives a lot of bang for its buck.

Plant with ornamental grasses.
