Asphodeline lutea Gelbkerze (Yellow Candle)
King's spear
Asphodeline lutea commonly called king’s spear, is a rhizomatous perennial that is native to the eastern Mediterranean.
Bold spikes of fragrant, star shaped, yellow flowers with blue tinted, grass like foliage make this very drought tolerant plant a must for xeriscape and gravel gardens.
It forms erect, dense clumps of foliage with gobstopper sized, green seed pods that turn a rich brown when mature.
Flowering in late spring the plants are especially attractive but need deep soils of preferably fertile loam and hot sunny position to grow well. They dislike being shaded by other plants.
