Aruncus dioicus 'Zweiweltenkind'

Goat's beard

'Zweiweltenkind' translates as 'Child of Two Worlds' which sounds quite ethereal for such a robust plant. This variety is a German hybrid between A.dioicus and A.sinensis. and grows to a height of 150cm.

It's shorter, with denser foliage and more abundant flowers than its species parents. The stems are a rich glossy brown and the feathery plumes a creamy white. It's like an Astilbe on steroids and requires similar conditions of permanently damp but not waterlogged, humus rich, partial shade. Indispensable as a mid-height border plant and a stunning backdrop to ferns, hostas and of course astilbes.

Not invasive but the clumps can become quite large over time.
