Amorpha canescens

Bastard indigo

A super tough deciduous shrub from North America with pinnate leaves and racemes of tiny, single-petalled, deep purple or blue flowers in summer.

A. fruticosa is a vigorous deciduous shrub of spreading habit, with leaves composed of up to 30 oval leaflets, and slender racemes to 15cm in length, of deep purple flowers with orange anthers.

It can grow up to 4 meters high and wide but will need about ten years to do so.

It prefers light, sandy soils but will tolerate pretty much any type and any aspect. Also good with extreme cold, drought resistant and low maintenance.
