Adenophora bulleyana

Gland bellflower

These ethereal plants originate from the temperate high altitude grasslands and woodlands of Western China.

Tall, upright stems covered in nodding, light blue flowers reminiscent of campanulas poke up in late summer from rounded, mid-green basal leaves. They differ from campanulas by having a sticky nectary that surrounds the base of the style.

Adenophora love moist, humus rich soil. Perfect for the edge of light woodland or a border that receives partial shade. Once planted, leave them alone as they loathe disturbance to their deep root system. Plants will not readily survive division.

An enchanting plant for a cool part of the garden.
